I am fortunate to live in the foothills of the Canadian Rockies and have enjoyed over 35 years of working in clay, painting, drawing and sculpting. The breath-taking beauty of the foothills and mountains that surround me provide never-ending inspiration.
I seem to thrive on working in various media, changing from one to another and back seems to give me a fresh start each time.
My travels take me to many countries where I experience other cultures and people, their lives, traditions, work, food and music. Although I do paint landscapes, my preference is figurative and portrait work. I throw in the odd abstract to get me back in the moment, loosen up, and immerse myself in colours.
Capturing the essence of a human being on paper or canvas and in clay is an ongoing challenge of which I never tire. Two years living in Europe in my early twenties had a lasting impression on me.
The figure and face is much like a window providing a glimpse into the life and the soul of an individual. So much can be read into a gesture, a posture, a look or an expression. What is more fascinating than the human figure? It tells such a story!
